Elisabeth Werner, Deputy Secretary-General for Policy Coordination, European Commission Elisabeth Werner, an Austrian national, has been working for the European Commission since 1996, where she held numerous roles in the area of budget and transport. In 2014, Ms Werner joined the Cabinet of Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva, responsible for Budget and Human Resources, where she became Head of Cabinet. In the field of transport and mobility, she was Director of Land Transport, responsible for road and rail transport in the EU and its security. In March 2021, Ms Werner was appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the European Commission. She is responsible for policy coordination, including the Green Deal. Ms Werner is Chair of the European Commission's Taskforce on Equality. Ms Werner holds a degree from the University of Vienna in economics and an MA from Collège d'Europe, Bruges
